Alhama de Murcia Fiesta de los Mayos

The Fiesta de los Mayos will be taking place in Alhama de Murcia from the 28th April to the 7th May 2017. They have been declared as being of Regional Tourist Interest and are an interesting fiesta to visit. It is made up of three parts; the May Crosses, the Mayos Figurers and the Corremayors. The Floral Crosses and Mayos Figurers are placed in various locations around Alhama de Murcia. The Mayos Figurers are made by local people from material and stuffed with straw, many of them depict everyday life whilst others have a comic element. The Corremayors are groups of local dressed as jesters who parade around the town having fun and adding to the fiesta atmosphere.
 
Also included in the programme is a Medieval Market from the 28th to the 1st as well as the 34th Folklore Festival and the 25th Custom Bike Meeting. The complete programme in Spanish is in the brochure below and the highlights are:
 
Friday 28th April
12:00 25th Custom Bike Meeting at the Complejo Deportivo Guadalentín
19:00-23:00 Medieval Market in Plaza de la Constitución.
 
Saturday 29th April
11:00-14:30 & 17:00-22:00 Medieval Market in Plaza de la Constitución.
12:00 25th Custom Bike Meeting at the Complejo Deportivo Guadalentín
21:30 34th Folklore Festival in the Auditorio Municipal Tierno Galván
 
Sunday 30th April
11:00-14:30 & 17:00-21:00 Medieval Market in Plaza de la Constitución.
11:30 Entertainment and demonstrations at the Recinto Feria
12:00 25th Custom Bike Meeting at the Complejo Deportivo Guadalentín
 
Saturday 6th May
18:00 Placing of the Los Mayos Statues in the streets, Tourist Train will be leaving from the Auditorium Municipal on Avda. Constitución and completeing a route around all of the statues.
21:15 Parade by the Corremayos Group Malvariche. Route: Plaza de la Constitución. Recorrido: Avda. Constitución, Juan Carlos I, La Feria, Corredera, San Francisco Javier, Plaza del Nazareno, Avda. Constantino López, Rambla Don Diego y Recinto Ferial.
 
Sunday 7th May
Tourist Train will be leaving from the Auditorium Municipal on Avda. Constitución and completing a route around all of the Los Mayos statues.

10:30 Parade by the Folk Groups and the Corremayos through the streets
14:30 Giant Paella in the Recinto Ferial (you must collect a ticket for this from the Corremayos as they parade in the morning)
17:00 Folk Concert in the Parque La Cubana
