Torrevieja Fiesta Virgen del Carmen
The town of Torrevieja will be celebrating the Fiesta of the Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of fishermen from the 7th to the 16th July 2018 when the statue of the Virgen is paraded around the town and then taken out to sea on one of the fishing boats!
Saturday 14th July
19:30 Mass in honour of all fishermen at the Sagrado Corazon de Jesus followed by the Flower Offering Parade to the Hombre del Mar monument.
Sunday 15th July
14:00 Calderos (fish stew) Competition at the Lonja de Pescado
Monday 16th July Dia de la Virgen del Carmen
08:0 Diana, early morning music parade
11:30 Traditional 'greasy pole competition' at the port. A tree truck will be laid out over the water and covered in greas. A red flag will be placed at the far end and anyone who wants to can walk along the greasy pole and try to be the first to retreave the flag!
19:30 Mass at the Iglesia de la Inmaculada.
20:30 Procession with the statue of the Virgen del Carmen. Route: Plaza de la Constitución, Concepción, Paseo Vista Alegre, fishing port where the statue will board the boat and the procession will become a maritime one. This is followed by a performance of the Salve Marinera by the Unión Musical Torrevejense and the jose Hodar choir. The statue returns to land and continues along Plaza Waldo Calero, Chapaprieta and Caballero de Rodas, to the Iglesia de la Inmaculada.
